A lovely bartender once asked me if I would like lemon and bitters and in my Whiskey Ginger. My first instinct was, no way, but then I thought better of my naivete and agreed to try it. Ever since then, I always have this bold yet beautiful highball with that tangy pairing. In this simple recipe, I used good whiskey (I like Bulleit, Knob Creek and even Crown) along with nice ginger ale as well as splashes of fresh ginger juice and squeezes of bitters-laden lemon.
Exceptional Whiskey Gingers
- 2 ounces good whiskey
- 12 ounces nice ginger ale (I like Hanson’s)
- Splashes of ginger juice
- 1/2 lemon, sliced
- Dashes of bitters
Fill two highball glasses with ice. In a cocktail shaker, add whiskey and ginger juice (if you don’t have a shaker simply layer the ingredients in the glasses then stir with a spoon), shake then pour over ice, giving each glass an even amount. Top each glass with six ounces of ginger ale. Slice lemon and generously dash each piece with bitters then squeeze lemon and bitters into each drink. Sip and enjoy!
