Maybe it’s because summer is coming to an end that I suddenly craved a refreshing shandy, or perhaps it is because we ran out of wine and there was a six-pack in the fridge. Either way, this shandy is absolutely perfect and can be made year round as long as you can find strawberries. Even frozen ones would work if it came to that, and I’m pretty sure it will come to that. The key thing about this shandy is to make sure you use a light and crisp lager or pilsner or even a wheat beer. With the sweet berries, acidity of the lemon and the brilliance that is pineapple juice, beer just got a lot more fun.
Strawberry Pineapple Shandy
- One bottle or 12 ounces of a crisp lager beer (used and loved Trader Joe’s Bohemian Lager)
- A handful of fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 cup fresh pineapple juice
- 1/2 lemon, squeezed
Fill two mason jars or pint glasses with ice. In a cocktail shaker or cup, muddle the strawberries along with lemon juice using a spoon to break the berries up until there is a pink liquid. Add the muddled strawberries to the two glasses then top with the beer and pineapple juice. Stir to blend everything together and drink to your heart’s content.
